Aberdeen is Scotland's third largest city, prosperous and cosmopolitan, and the gateway to Royal Deeside, an area of outstanding beauty, sparkling Highland rivers and misty mountains. Aberdeen and Grampian is an ideal place for outdoor activities of every kind and is a mecca for golfers with 69 golf courses to play. Sitting on the banks of the rivers Don and Dee, it is commonly known as the granite city and is a striking granite cityscape created in the 19th century by 3 fine architects. The flower gardens in the urban parks are some of the most beautiful in Britain. There is a lively harbour, splendid Art gallery and new Maritime museum.
