Anstruther is located on the northern shore and at the mouth of the Firth of Forth, between the fishing villages of Pittenween and Crail. It has many shops, pubs and restaurants serving local seafood specialities, for the visitor to enjoy. It is the main commercial centre of the East Neuk of Fife. The museum is situated on the harbour front in Anstruther and tells the story of fishing in Scotland and its people from earliest times to the present. It occupies 27,000sq ft including two “A” listed buildings – a 1724 Merchant house and a 16thC Abbot's lodging. Kellie Castle was completed around 1606, once home to the Earls of Kellie and was restored by the Lorimer family in 1878. The oldest tower, dating back to 1360, is said to be haunted. Since 1970 Kellie Castle has been in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. About 5 miles northwest of Anstruther.
