Salisbury Plain is famous as the location of Stonehenge stone circle and other ancient landmarks such as the large henge and stone circles surrounding the village of Avebury. The city of Salisbury is notable for its cathedral and the county town is Trowbridge. Salisbury, in the south of the county is less than 30 miles from the south coast. Swindon, in the north of the county is easily accessed along the M4.

Situated in the Wiltshire countryside 6 miles from the market town of Marlborough, this Grade 1 listed building houses two magnificent Cornish beam engines. Built in 1807 to provide water to the summit of the Kennet and Avon Canal. croftonbeamengines.org. About 5 miles south east of Marlborough.
