New Ross is a small town in southwest County Wexford, in the southeast of Ireland. Dunganstown, 4 miles south of New Ross, is the ancestoral home of the Kennedy family which includes Joe Kennedy, John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and senator Ted Kennedy whose grandfather emigrated to America from there. New Ross is Ireland's only inland port, some 32km from the sea on the River Barrow. Visitors to New Ross will immediately be drawn to the magnificent sight of the masts and rigging of the historic emigrant ship Dunbrody towering over the quayside. Dunbrody is a full scale replica of the original ship which was built in 1845 for the Graves family of New Ross and which carried thousands of emigrants from Ireland to North America over a period of 30 years, trading extensively all over the world. The ship itself is a beautiful authentic recreation.
