Royston is situated on the borders of Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. It is a small market town at the crossroads of two ancient roads, the Icknield Way and Ermine Street. A museum was first established in Royston in 1856 and the history of the town is reflected in the Royston Tapestry displayed in the Museum. Royston was principally a market town relying on farming and agricultural industries. In recent years, however, there has been an expansion of the town with the introduction of light industry. Hidden beneath Melbourn Street is Royston Cave, discovered in 1742, it remains a mysterious and magical place, attracting visitors from around the world. Royston is 12 miles south of Cambridge, 9 miles NE of Letchworth and 11 miles north of Stevenage. Also see Royston & Royston attractions
