The Essex countryside is ideal for cycling
with its gentle gradients and abundance of country lanes, byways
and bridleways within easy reach of the towns. There are many
quieter roads in our towns and rural areas that cyclists can
use safely and conveniently. Cycle map showing official, advisory,
traffic free, bridleway routes, cycle parking and cycle stores.
Walking is the most popular active recreational pursuit. Essex
County Council has produced several walking and cycling guides
for the County. These are available by post from the County Council.
All public rights of way are shown on a map available to view
(between 9am and 5pm) at County Hall and at district and parish
council offices for their relevant areas. Tel: 01245 437197.
Walking is not just for the countryside - Essex works hard to
create safe, vibrant and healthy streets in its towns for people
on foot. Please go here
