East
Anglia is made up of Suffolk, Norfolk
and the old county of Cambridgeshire. Suffolk is "Constable
country", home to picturesque, well-preserved little towns,
a fine selection of medieval parish churches, old-fashioned seaside
resorts, fine Georgian architecture, the beautiful Stour valley
and undulating open countryside. Norfolk is a county of spectacular
coastlines from unspoilt marshlands, fishing villages to seaside
resorts. Its capital is the splendid city of Norwich with fine
architecture, a Norman cathedral and castle, and a wonderful
busy outdoor covered market. The Norfolk Broads is a unique landscape
of reed-ridden waterways, a haven for wildlife, bird-watching
and boating enthusists. Cambridgeshire is dominated by the landscape
of the Fens, drained marshland that now provides rich, alluvial
farmland. Cambridge is home to the world renowned university
and is one of the most beautiful towns in England. Photo: Bircham Windmill -
the only windmill in working order in the area open to the public.
