Southern England describes
a large area of Britain from Dorset and Wiltshire in the west,
Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey, and East and West Sussex. The
landscape varies east to west, from the chalky uplands of the
Sussex Downs and its famous cliffs to the woodlands of the New
Forest and the vast openness of Salisbury Plain. The coast offers
historic ports, traditional seaside resorts and spectacular cliffs,
whilst inland are elegant old towns, picturesque villages and
rolling countryside. The South Downs Way is a main long-distance
footpath running along a grassy ridge and giving dramatic views
over fine countryside aswell as over the coast. Southern England
is an area rich in historic country houses and museums, castles,
cathedrals and ancient monuments, and famous prehistoric sites,
most notably Stonehenge in Wiltshire. Please go here for bed and breakfast
